Media @ New Hope Calgary In this message we ponder the reality of winter. Why God? Why a season like this? Was does winter say about who you are?

He lets out all the stops, he holds nothing back. No one can mistake that voice— His word thundering so wondrously, his mighty acts staggering our understanding. He orders the snow, 'Blanket the earth!' and the rain, 'Soak the whole countryside!' No one can escape the weather—it's there. And no one can escape from God. Wild animals take shelter, crawling into their dens, When blizzards roar out of the north and freezing rain crusts the land. It's God's breath that forms the ice, it's God's breath that turns lakes and rivers solid. And yes, it's God who fills clouds with rainwater and hurls lightning from them every which way. He puts them through their paces—first this way, then that— commands them to do what he says all over the world. Whether for discipline or grace or extravagant love, he makes sure they make their mark.
Elihu re: God in chapter 37:6-13 of the book of Job, MSG

With your finger you opened up springs and creeks, and dried up the wild floodwaters. You own the day, you own the night; you put stars and sun in place. You laid out the four corners of earth, shaped the seasons of summer and winter.
Psalm 74:9, MSG

They were celebrating Hanukkah just then in Jerusalem. It was winter. Jesus was strolling in the Temple across Solomon's Porch. The Jews, circling him, said, "How long are you going to keep us guessing? If you're the Messiah, tell us straight out.

Thanks for the message on winter. I had never thought about what the seasons say about God. Since I am a pastor, it created the desire in me to think more about the subject and possible do my own sermon series on the seasons.
Right now I am spending time in Nicaragua, during the winter. Would your sermon be different, reflect on different aspects if you were here? I think of the dry season here, of dust, constant sun, of heat and of a different kind of beauty. Just a thought.
