Last Sunday I preached about the perils of quick winfalls.  Thinking about the topic I realized something about our desires.  Because they’re made for God – in all of his immensity, complexity and mystery – when they’re misapplied to anything less than God, they’re simply too much.  We possess way more desire than any non-God object we direct it at can handle.  Obviously nothing can fully meet what only God can meet.  So when we make the attempt, this desire/object mismatch results in a massive overconsumption pattern.  Whether its money, material goods, sex or other pleasures, we consume too much, too quickly, and with too much attention and passion.  This can’t help but happen when the object of our desire is so overwhelmingly not up to par.
